Program and Course Development

  • Oversaw as Chair, and personally contributed to, the development of the BA in Economics, Major and Minor, the BBA Economics Concentration, and developed new courses.
  • Developed (with others) from scratch the BA in Global Studies, Major and Minor.
  • Compiled course packages for Econ 340 and 360, and GLST 200, 211, 390, and 491

Work for Publishers

  • Prepared the Student On-Line Learning Centre for McGraw-Hill for the text Principles of Macroeconomics, by Sayre and Morris.
  • Numerous book reviews for various publishers

University Governance

  • Member of eighteen different hiring committees, including four for Dean’s positions, in the last twelve years
  • Member of other committees over the years including the Joint Scholarly Research, COPS for MFA, Radio Malaspina Development, Scholarship and Bursaries, Professional Development, MBA Development, and Chair of GLST Internship Committee
  • Since January 2010, serving as the PDDB Academic Advisor

  • Organized and hosted the province-wide Economics Articulation Conference, April 2008
  • Guest speaker for Western Canada Rights and Democracy Conference, February 2009; topic “Fair Trade vs Free Trade”
  • Guest speaker for Certified Professional Purchasers of BC Conference, September 2009; topic “Current Economic Crisis”
  • Co-investigator for the VIU Economic Impact Study, Fall 2009
  • Over the years, have supervised over thirty theses, and twenty Applied Business Projects for MBA students
  • Organized the Economics and the Global Studies Awards
  • Established a system of Economics Tutors
  • Numerous interviews with the local media on economics-related issues

Teaching

  • Actively teaching/participating in three different areas: Economics, Global Studies, and the MBA program
