Mitch Turko, a Bachelor of Business Administration graduate, has been named on the National Honour Roll for the 2024 Common Final Examination (CFE) – a distinction award to the top 1% of CPA candidates across Canada. Out of more than 1,400 successful candidates in the May session, Mitch was one of only 16 recognized nationally for exceptional performance.

Research in the Faculty of Management
Our faculty are actively involved in research that connects classroom theory with real-world problems. Their work often focuses on regional, community-based issues while also addressing global trends. Research activities are practical and hands-on, often involving students and community partners.

Dr. Kimberly Coleman
Dr. Coleman is VIU’s 2025 Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Studies. Dr. Coleman is an Associate Professor at the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources at the University of Vermont. During her time at VIU, Dr. Coleman has been researching mountain biking’s social impacts on Indigenous communities, and ways for communities to manage mountain bike trails with respect towards Indigenous lands. She is comparing a case study of the Ucluelet Mountain Bike Association with a case study of Carrabassett Valley in Maine, United States, to determine what creates successful co-management of shared recreational land.

Did you know that most programs in the Faculty of Management have an experiential learning option where students can complete a Co-op or Internship as part of their credential?
Tourism, Recreation and Hospitality degree and diploma programs have a co-op built in to the program.
Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) students have the option to complete an Internship in Accounting, Finance, Management and Marketing.
Masters of Business Administration (MBA) students complete an Internship and Applied Business Project in the final semester of their degree.
VIU students in the Faculty of Management are actively involved in research that provides hands-on, applied experience. They work alongside faculty and community partners on projects that address real-world business, tourism, recreation and hospitality challenges, often with a focus on innovation, sustainability and community resilience.
