Information on Graduation

In order to graduate, students must submit an application regardless of whether or not you intend to participate in the scheduled convocation ceremony. More information on the application process for graduation. 

Degree Completion

    • Once your final grades have been posted to your student record, the Graduate Programs (GP) Advisor will approve you for graduation and the GP-FOM office will confirm by email that you have met the graduate requirements.
    • GRADUATE CERTIFICATE/DIPLOMA STUDENTS: Your credentials will be processed by the Registrar’s office. It will be provided as you requested when you complete the graduation application. If you requested to pick up the credential, the Registration office will contact you by email when it is ready to be picked up.
    • MBA STUDENTS ONLY: Your name is then put forward to the next available Senate meeting. Once your degree is conferred by Senate, the statement “Credential Granted” will appear in your student record.
    • International students should note that this letter and an official copy of your transcript(s) can be used to apply for your Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) in advance of receiving your parchment.

Request for Letter of Completion

    • Once you have been approved to graduate you can apply to receive this letter.
    • International Students: send an email to Sandra.Galloway@viu.ca  to request this letter. 
    • Domestic Students: Detailed information on ordering transcriptsInternational students should note that it is best to wait for all grades to be posted to the student record system before ordering a transcript to apply for your Post-Graduate Work Permit. 

Information on Convocation

Convocation is a ceremonial day to celebrate your achievements with friends, classmates, faculty and family. If you would like to attend a convocation ceremony, you must sign up when you apply to graduate.
