Thesis Title: Winter tourism experiences and Chinese visitors to the Yukon Territory, Canada: Implications for sustainable tourism development

The Master of Arts in Sustainable Leisure Management, in conjunction with our World Leisure Centre of Excellence, is pleased to introduce Xinhui (Nobeia) Zhang, Graduate Student in progress, who will be presenting her research and thesis.

Winter tourism in the polar and sub-polar region is flourishing and offers both challenges and opportunities. Canada’s Yukon Territory is a growing winter tourism destination. Chinese visitors have become one of the main target groups for this type of tourism. The tourism experience is important for future improvement in order to develop tourism that meets experiential needs and minimizes negative impacts and develops with the sustainable use of the tourism resource. The purpose of this research is to better understand the experiential features of winter tours promoted to Chinese visitors and to identify the relationship to the sustainable tourism development in an Arctic context.
