LinkBC Needs You – Mentoring at the Annual Student Case Competition (Oct 27,2013)

LinkBC’s Student Case Competition will take place on Sunday October 27th at the Vancouver Convention Centre as part of Connect, BC’s hospitality industry event. Each team in the competition (either degree or diploma-level) will require a mentor to help facilitate their leadership and teambuilding skills while they tackle a case provided by an industry client. The students will receive some clues ahead of time, but the cases won’t be revealed until Sunday morning.

We recruit mentors from MA programs because of their proje

ct-management skills and strong industry backgrounds. Mentors help students with time-management, and act as a sounding board to help ensure the team stays on track. A comprehensive competition guide is provided to each mentor in advance of the competition.

Mentors are invited to meet their teams at a networking reception the previous night (Saturday Oct 26th) at 7pm at the Coast Coal Harbour Hotel (light refreshments provided). They will rejoin their team at 6:45 am on Sunday, and work with them from 7am to noon. Mentors are welcome to stay for the afternoon case presentations, and will be granted free access to the Connect tradeshow the following day.

This year’s cases will centre on hotels (HR) and transportation (consumer loyalty). If you have experience (or interest) in these areas, a desire to coach young students, and the energy to give back, we want you! Due to tight budgets for the event, we are unable to provide reimbursement for travel. Please ensure you are able to cover your transportation, and accommodation (a bag lunch will be provided on Sunday).

Please contact Adrian Dhalla (adrian@linkbc.ca, 604.990.7962) for more information on the mentoring program. And we’ll see you at Connect!
