Join us on March 18 for her presentation titled "Whose artist are you? Sitting with my elder as part of my artistic practice" in which Nicole will talk about her research project, sewing practice, and how these evolved into an ongoing friendship.
The Department of Recreation and Tourism Management and VIU's World Leisure Centre of Excellence are pleased to welcome Nicole Bauberger, for yet another edition of the World VIUPoints.
Nicole Bauberger is an artist, arts writer and arts educator of settler ancestry. She has lived in the Yukon since 2003. She honed her skill in oil painting working as an apprentice and assistant painter in Peterborough, Ontario. She has created and toured public gallery exhibitions across Canada since 2000 and makes her living from her artwork. Since 2014, she has been learning about traditional sewing from Mrs. Annie Smith and her daughters, especially Ms. Dianne Smith, elders of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation in Whitehorse. She is grateful for what she learns from them and does a lot of her sewing sitting with Annie.
Join us on March 18 from 2:00 to 3:30 pm, for Nicole's public presentation titled "Whose artist are you? Sitting with my elder as part of my artistic practice" in which she will talk about her research project, sewing practice, and how these evolved into an ongoing friendship.
The presentation will be held at The View Gallery, at Vancouver Island University, in Nanaimo. Audience members who also enjoy sewing are invited to bring samples of their sewing work to share with those present, and to bring sewing to work on while they listen to the presentation.
