Thesis Presentation: Lexuan Deng

Thesis Title: Leisure Needs of Women of Lived Experience with Homelessness

The Master of Arts in Sustainable Leisure Management, in conjunction with our World Leisure Centre of
Excellence is pleased to introduce Lexuan (Six) Deng, Graduate Student in progress, who will be
presenting their research and thesis.


This study explores the leisure needs of women of lived experience with homelessness. The research questions of the study are (a) how do women of lived experience with homelessness define leisure? (b) what are the leisure needs of women with lived experience with homelessness? The study employs photo-based qualitative methods and a community-based participatory approach to analyze leisure needs of women experiencing homelessness. This study provides numerous suggestions to related institutions and policymakers for addressing leisure needs among the population of women of lived experience with homelessness in the areas of resources, space, programming, staffing, etc.
