Thesis Title: Understanding resident perceptions towards tourism development - A case study of Hopkins, Belize using the Tourism Impact Attitude Scale

The Master of Arts in Sustainable Leisure Management, in conjunction with our World Leisure Centre of Excellence, is pleased to introduce Yasel Acosta, Graduate Student in progress, who will be presenting her research and thesis.

This thesis looks into the perceptions of the residents of Hopkins on the tourism development occurring in their community. Hopkins is a tiny coastal community in the south of Belize with a population of approximately 1500 people. The community was originally a fishing community and is now transitioning into tourism becoming its main industry. This research, therefore, sought out to learn how residents perceive this current development.
