Laurel Sliskovic's Thesis Defense

The new Master of Arts in Sustainable Leisure Management, in conjunction with our World Leisure Centre of Excellence is pleased to introduce Laurel Sliskovic, Graduate Student in progress, who will be presenting her research and thesis.
Thesis Title:

Local Vancouver Island Tourism Participation and its Relationship to Quality of Life

The study of local Vancouver Island tourism participation and its relationship to quality of life for residents is closely tied to the concepts studied within sustainable leisure management. As a simple, accessible, and affordable form of tourism, local tourism participation has the potential to offer many of the same benefits of leisure; however those benefits are largely under-researched. This research explores local tourism through the perspective of females, aged 30 - 39 and Vancouver Island tourism industry stakeholders, identifies its meanings to Vancouver Island residents, and relates it to quality of life indicators. Practical implications, future research opportunities and knowledge mobilization strategies will also be discussed.

Date: December 10, 2012
