VIU's WLCE Co-director Joanne Schroeder is the new chair of the World Leisure Organization

Joanne is the first woman to be appointed chair, a major milestone for the organization!

After an open call for expressions of interest for the positions of Chair, Vice-chair, and Treasurer, the World Leisure Organization Board of Directors has elected the organization’s officers for the term 2020-2022.

Our co-director, Joanne Schroeder, is the new chair of WLO. Dr. Lawal Marafa, Professor and Director of the Master of Social Science in Sustainable Tourism of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, has been elected Vice-chair for the next three years. Finally, Yvonne Klerks, Lecturer and Coordinator of International Relations at the Academy for Leisure and Events of Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas, also a WLCE), has been re-elected for a new term as WLO Treasurer.

Joanne is the first woman to be appointed as chair of the organization, a major milestone that is worth highlighting and celebrating. With many years as a Board member, including being the vice-chair in the past term, we are very confident that Joanne will keep her commitment and hard work for the organization, building and strengthen collaborations worldwide, advocating for leisure as a means to improve human conditions, empowering and inspiring people around the world.

Check out the message the outgoing Chair, Roger Coles, and the incoming Chair, Joanne Schroeder sent to each other.

Congratulations to the new board of directors of WLO!
