International Mountain Day 2021 - Webinar: Global Perspectives on Sustainable Tourism in Mountain Regions

International Mountain Day is a United Nations designated day which marks the importance of mountain regions across the globe. This year's theme is 'Sustainable Mountain Tourism' and despite mountain tourism destinations being heavily impacted by COVID-19, there is also "an opportunity to rethink mountain tourism and its impact on natural resources and livelihoods […] and to harness it towards a more resilient, green and inclusive future" (United Nations).

The State of parks-related knowledge mobilization in Canada: Cases from Alberta, BC, and Ontario.

This webinar will share and compare observations of case studies conducted in five distinct Canadian landscapes. Each case study explores the types of parks and conservation-related knowledge that are known in the region and how this knowledge is used (or not) to advance protected area goals.

Join members of the ARCTISEN research team who will Explore the meanings and practices of cultural sensitivity in tourism. What is cultural sensitivity and how can local tourism actors benefit from using cultural sensitivity in tourism development? The COVID-19 pandemic has shown the need and offered opportunities for rethinking our strategies of building a more sustainable tourism industry. Various tourism researchers will present and discuss the role and importance of cultural sustainability in Arctic tourism.
