Celebration of Research Excellence & Knowledge Transfer Event

CREATE 2013     March 26-27
To recognize student research at Vancouver Island University

There are FOUR ways to participate:
1)      Make a POSTER
·         will be displayed at the upper section (Section T) of the main cafeteria (Building 300) for two days
·         there will be five 90 minute blocks and students must sign up to be at their poster for at least one of these blocks
·         during their assigned block judges will visit the presenter and ask questions
·         all students are encouraged to submit an optional “e-poster” (see below)

2)      Do a PRESENTATION 
·         10 minutes during the lunch hours plus 5 minutes for questions
·         limited number of spots
·         students must submit an abstract
·         format will be flexible to include all students on campus, i.e. the presentation could be a talk, a recital, a piece of music, a dance or a demonstration but must be the result of student research

3)      SCHOLARSHIP SLAM
·         3-5 minute oral presentations trying to cover the most important aspects of the research in a fun and informal way
·         first come first served
·         any student or faculty member may participate

4)      SUBMIT AN “E-POSTER”
·         all students are encouraged to submit an optional “e-poster”
·         the file for your poster can be uploaded up to 2 weeks prior to the event to allow for remote access and pre-event poster browsing (VIU login required)
·         students will have the option to upload a video of themselves talking about their poster to enhance the experience for the browser

CELEBRATION OF RESEARCH
·         a mixer with appetizers and drinks at the end of the second day to celebrate both student and faculty research
·         Scholarship Slam event
·         Awards Ceremony for the student prizes
·         come have a drink with us and do some networking!

AWARDS/INCENTIVES
·         Cash prizes will be awarded in several categories
·         VIU Student Travel and Conference Fund is available for eligible students to offset the full or partial cost of poster printing
