Farhad Moghimehfar
Bio
Dr. Farhad Moghimehfar is a professor in the Department of Recreation and Tourism Management and the BC Regional Innovation Chair in Tourism and Sustainable Rural Development at Vancouver Island University. His research focuses on sustainable tourism, outdoor recreation, and the economic diversification of rural communities. He specializes in both quantitative and qualitative research methods, often working at the intersection of visitor experience, policy, and community resilience.
Farhad has led and collaborated on numerous projects examining the role of tourism and recreation in shaping local economies. He is passionate about developing applied, community-based research that supports policy development and fosters sustainable tourism practices.
In addition to his academic work, Dr. Moghimehfar mentors students and collaborates with municipalities, non-profits, and industry partners to bridge research and practice. His approach emphasizes inclusive, data-informed planning that strengthens social, environmental, and economic sustainability across rural and natural settings.
