About Vancouver Island University

Vancouver Island University, with roots going back to 1936, is a public, degree-granting institution that offers university and college programs. Based on statistics from 22-23, VIU's student population accounted for 13,000 students; 1,650 international students; 82 countries; 1,500 indigenous.

VIU’s Faculty of Management offers undergraduate and graduate business and tourism programs that provide an enriched learning experience and prepare graduates to be leaders in a world where demands are constantly changing and expectations rising. Our programs appeal to recent graduates and those individuals who require higher education for career advancement or specialized training to broaden their educational background.

The School of Business offers various undergraduate diplomas and the Bachelor of Business Administration degree at the undergraduate level. At the graduate level, we offer a Graduate Certificate in International Business (GCIB), a Graduate Diploma in Project Management (GDPM) and the Master of Business Administration (MBA) Program. The School of Business is accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

Facilities

Nanaimo Campus

Vancouver Island University has four campuses located in British Columbia. The main campus, which hosts Graduate Programs, Faculty of Management is in the City of Nanaimo. This scenic, 110-acre campus overlooks the coastal mountains of the British Columbia mainland and is about a 5-minute bus ride from downtown Nanaimo. VIU offers a 294-seat theatre, a library, campus store, research centres, art gallery, and two Japanese gardens.

Faculty of Management Building

The new Faculty of Management Centre includes a lounge for graduate business students, lecture theatres, two new computer labs and seminar/break-out rooms for group activities. The building also hosts the Bloomberg terminal. All rooms are technologically enhanced in order to simulate a creative business environment and the building has wireless access throughout.

Library

VIU’s main library in Nanaimo offers over 230,000 books/journals, online resources, viewing rooms, group study rooms and multimedia computer stations. Gymnasium

VIU has a 20,000-square-foot gymnasium that features 2 Basketball Courts, 4 Volleyball Courts, 10 Badminton Courts, Fitness Room and Weight Room and a Multipurpose Room. Fitness and Weight Room has individual weight stations, free weights, exercise bikes, rowers, ellipticals and treadmills.

Multi-Purpose Room has dance classes, stretching, table tennis, heavy and speed boxing bags, wrist straps, Swiss balls, skipping ropes, medicine balls, balance boards, bands and more!

VIU Residence

VIU Student Residence houses over 500 students on VIU's Nanaimo campus each year. Residents come to our community from across Canada and the world, each bringing different life experiences and perspectives to VIU. The residence offers single and double rooms. Around campus

Facilities within a five-minute walking distance include an indoor aquatic centre with an Olympic-sized swimming pool, wave pool and water slides; dual indoor ice rinks for skating and ice hockey; a 400-metre track, soccer and baseball fields.
