BC Protected Areas Research Forum

BC PARF is a partnership between the research community, and regional, provincial and federal park governing agencies. The research forum brings together researchers, advocates, managers, and community members who create, share, and use research for parks and protected areas management in British Columbia. 

BC PARF will be held from 12-14 December 2022 at Vancouver Island University.

WLO is inviting you to meet in an online space for brokering ideas, stimulating debate, and offering creative solutions to the leisure field. On this occasion, and for this topic, we will count on three exceptional international speakers to address the challenges identified in the professional sector.

The World Leisure Centre of Excellence (WLCE) at Vancouver Island University is privileged to share its fifth volume of case studies, as part of the Innovative Leisure Practices series. 
As in past compilations, the case studies presented in this 2021 edition of Innovative Leisure Practices (Vol. 5) are varied in nature and represent a diverse range of relevant leisure interests, issues, and practices.

International Mountain Day 2021 - Webinar: Global Perspectives on Sustainable Tourism in Mountain Regions

International Mountain Day is a United Nations designated day which marks the importance of mountain regions across the globe. This year's theme is 'Sustainable Mountain Tourism' and despite mountain tourism destinations being heavily impacted by COVID-19, there is also "an opportunity to rethink mountain tourism and its impact on natural resources and livelihoods […] and to harness it towards a more resilient, green and inclusive future" (United Nations).

The VIU Master of Art in Sustainable Leisure Management program, in conjunction with the VIU WLCE, welcomed its 11th cohort of students this week. This cohort includes Canadian students from British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario, and international students from Vietnam, UAE, Iran, China, India, and Ghana.
