A Framework for Assessing Governance at the Landscape Level
While there is a significant and growing body of research on the governance and management of parks and other kinds of protected areas, there is also widespread recognition that ecosystems extend beyond the boundaries of protected area, and that effective conservation and sustainability planning must look beyond the protected area level to larger landscapes. However, governance at the landscape level is challenging and complex and has received limited attention from researchers. This research development project will test and refine a framework for assessment of governance systems for landscape-level ecosystem-based management.
Members of the research team have developed a draft version of the assessment framework, and will test it in diverse landscape-level ecosystem management cases in four locations in Canada, Kenya and Tanzania.
