The World Leisure Centre of Excellence at Vancouver Island University is pleased to announce that Lihui (Cindy) Wu received the 2021-22 VIU REACH Award, under the mentorship of professor Farhad Moghimehfar. 

The World Leisure Centre of Excellence at Vancouver Island University and the National Extension Tourism Network are pleased to share the second volume of Innovative and Promising Practices in Sustainable Tourism. This initiative aligns with the mandate of both partners and enables the mobilization of knowledge in sustainable tourism to a global audience.

VIU's WLCE team is pleased to release its latest Activity Report that comprises the initiatives of the Centre from September 2019 to August 2021.

International Mountain Day 2021 - Webinar: Global Perspectives on Sustainable Tourism in Mountain Regions

International Mountain Day is a United Nations designated day which marks the importance of mountain regions across the globe. This year's theme is 'Sustainable Mountain Tourism' and despite mountain tourism destinations being heavily impacted by COVID-19, there is also "an opportunity to rethink mountain tourism and its impact on natural resources and livelihoods […] and to harness it towards a more resilient, green and inclusive future" (United Nations).

The Master of Arts in Sustainable Leisure Management, in conjunction with our World Leisure Centre of Excellence, is pleased to introduce Anna Lawrence, Graduate Student in progress, who will be presenting her thesis research.

Thesis title: The Space it Fills, Leisure Gardening During COVID-19: An Evaluation of Leisure Gardening, Basic Psychological Needs, and Resilience in a Time of Uncertainty
