2021 TTRA Canada Virtual Conference - T4: Travelling Towards Tomorrow Together

TTRA Canada is excited to announce it will be holding its first virtual conference from October 13 to 15, 2021.

This year’s virtual conference theme, T4: Travelling Towards Tomorrow Together, provides a platform to address the challenges and opportunities presented by the COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism industry. While recognizing the drastic impact of the pandemic on travel and tourism, it is time to move forward.

How people view the role and importance of physical activity in the well-being and social togetherness of their community is a question that Vancouver Island University (VIU) Recreation and Tourism Professor Dr. Aggie Weighill is looking to answer as part of a new research project in the Yukon.

The VIU Master of Art in Sustainable Leisure Management program, in conjunction with the VIU WLCE, welcomed its 11th cohort of students this week. This cohort includes Canadian students from British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario, and international students from Vietnam, UAE, Iran, China, India, and Ghana.

Monir Shahzeidi is the recipient of the Governor General’s Academic Gold Medal award

Monir Shahzeidi recently finished a Master of Arts in Sustainable Leisure Management at VIU. Beyond just graduating, however, she is also the recipient of this year's Governor General’s Academic Gold Medal award. The annual award recognizes the student who has achieved the highest academic standing upon graduation from a VIU master’s degree program.

The COVID-19 pandemic has shown the need and offered opportunities for rethinking our strategies of building a more sustainable tourism industry. Various tourism researchers will present and discuss the role and importance of cultural sustainability in Arctic tourism.
